Elsie raised her family of six children on her beloved farm, where she raised Leghorn hens and made great food including Kolacky pastries. In the making of the plaque, she wanted the hen and chicks to represent her and her 6 children. There were many family members there helping her as her mighty helpers (Marlaine Smisek, Ken Smisek, Lenny Smisek, Randy “Chester” Smisek , Alex and Owen Block, Jan Johnson, Nancy Sheehan, Lenny Smisek) along with Mitch Marlow. The youngest son said, “ I want to be running the other way,” so they made that chick do as such! Elsie also hand-made the Kolachies on her plaque out of plasticine. They looked so good that we wanted to eat them! When Elsie passed her family reminisced about how much she enjoyed working on the project! Elsie passed on 1/1/2013.
